The work continues. CSAP is working in tandem with the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to address prescribing issues on the federal level. Congress put out a request for information on the national drug shortage and APA wants to better understand how far reaching this problem has become. To that end, please fill out this survey by Sunday, June 25. The survey consists of three short questions and will prompt you to share patient stories that will help put a face to the data they collect. Your insights will inform APA’s response to Congress and future advocacy efforts on this issue.
Next week, outgoing Government Affairs Committee Chairwoman Dr. Emily Wood, will assist APA in a dialogue with staff from the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The agenda will include, but not be limited to, the following questions:
- How does FDA see the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) role in the current stimulant medication shortages?
- How can the FDA and the DEA work together more effectively to mitigate the current situation and to prevent this from happening again in the future?
- What can specialty societies representing clinicians and their patients do to assist?
- Are there other federal agencies we should be engaging with to help resolve the current crisis?
