CSAP’s Board voted unanimously to establish a new committee, one that will focus specifically on issues faced by psychiatrists in private practice. The committee will hold its first meeting in early 2024. If you are interested in participating in this committee, just email Paul Yoder at SYASL. Some of the issues this committee will include, but not be limited to the following:
1) Onerous prior authorizations for meds;
2) Difficulty accepting/getting insurance reimbursement: i.e. unpleasant AI-driven letters from health plans if they think a provider is possibly upcoding;
3) Difficulty patients facing using out of network benefits (i.e. – insurance reimbursement for patients submitting their superbills is difficult and time consuming);
4) The ongoing stimulant shortage;
5) California laws regarding employment (i.e. Hiring NPs or PAs, including the labor laws that won’t allow them to be contractors; and,
6) Access (i.e. most of the lists of in-network providers are old, outdated and filled with inactive options).
