The last year and a half have been a great learning experience for me. I have generally shied away from political involvement, mostly because I grew up in a country where it was risky to be outspoken or even have an opinion that did not support the oppressive government. But being involved with CSAP in this role has been eye opening for me. I have not only seen how important it is to be informed and involved in the process, it is also essential. As physicians, our voices are absolutely necessary in the legislative process. We need to speak up for what’s best for the community, our patients and the practice of medicine. I am excited for the path that CSAP has established to allow us to do this important work. And with the recent decision of the fifth CA district branch, CCPS, to join CSAP, we will be quite impactful.
As I conclude my term as Chairperson of the CSAP Board of representatives, I would like to thank everyone involved in making this a successful start up process. Specifically, each of the Board members who dedicated their time and expertise to CSAP, everyone who participated in the Government Affairs committee and the Conservatorship Reform subcommittee and of course Paul Yoder. Paul has been instrumental in providing guidance and support in helping our organization get established and recognized as a valued resource in Sacramento.
Thank you for allowing me to serve in this role. I look forward to other opportunities to contribute to the important work of CSAP. And I welcome our incoming Chairperson, Takeo Toyoshima of NCPS.
Gratefully, Roula Creighton
